Project Target
Following the worsening drought conditions and increased displacement in Gubadley District, Banadir Region the intervention targeted drought-affected internally displaced persons (IDPs), with a focus on vulnerable households, women-headed households, lactating mothers and children under five facing severe food insecurity and malnutrition risks.
Project Impact
With support from LM International and implementation by SOHDA Somalia, the emergency food assistance response provided life-saving support to vulnerable displaced families in Gubadley IDP settlements. The intervention contributed to reducing acute hunger, improving household food access, and supporting coping capacity among drought-affected communities facing prolonged humanitarian shocks.
Key Results
Improved Household Food Security
A total of 260 households received emergency food assistance to meet urgent daily food needs. Each household received:
Rice 10 kg
White Flour -10 kg
White Sugar – 5 kg
Cooking Oil – 3 litres
The assistance enabled vulnerable families to meet immediate consumption needs, reduce negative coping strategies and stabilize food availability during the drought period.
Protection and Support for Vulnerable Families
The response prioritized the most vulnerable groups, including women, lactating mothers, children under five and elderly persons. The intervention helped restore dignity, reduce extreme food deprivation and improve the wellbeing of displaced families living in overcrowded IDP settlements.
Strengthened Community Resilience
Despite ongoing drought conditions, displacement pressures, and limited livelihood opportunities, the timely humanitarian assistance strengthened household resilience and supported community survival mechanisms in Gubadley District.
Overall Contribution
Overall, the project contributed to saving lives, reducing acute food insecurity, and improving the immediate wellbeing of 260 drought-affected internally displaced households in Banadir Region, Somalia.
