Hawa’s Story: “Please Don’t Forget Us”

Hawa Abukar Nur, a 33-year-old widow mother of three, was forced to flee El Ba’ad village in Middle Shabelle after prolonged drought destroyed her crops, killed her livestock, and left her family without food.

Seeking safety, she arrived at Gubadley IDP Settlement. But by then, her youngest daughter, Muna, just 19 months old, was suffering from severe malnutrition and growing weaker every day.

Through the generous support of LM International Somalia, Hawa’s family received emergency food and nutrition assistance, including nutritious porridge, fortified milk, peanut biscuits, dates, rice, flour, sugar, and cooking oil.

The impact was immediate.

Within weeks, Muna regained her strength, her appetite returned, and the little girl who had stopped smiling began to laugh and play again.

With gratitude, Hawa says:

“I sincerely thank LM International for their generosity and timely support. Your assistance saved my daughter’s life and gave our family hope when we had nowhere else to turn.”

Today, however, the drought continues and the assistance has been exhausted. Hawa once again struggles to feed her children and often skips meals herself so they can eat.

“Your support saved my child once. Please don’t forget us. We still need your help.”

Hawa’s story is a powerful reminder that emergency food and nutrition assistance saves lives. Thanks to LM International’s generosity, a vulnerable child recovered from malnutrition and a family regained hope. Continued support can help ensure that more mothers and children facing hunger receive the same life-saving chance.
