In 2025 and continuing into 2026, Somali Humanitarian and Development Action (SOHDA) in partnership with LM International has been implementing a multi-sectoral life-saving emergency response targeting conflict- and drought-affected internally displaced persons (IDPs) across Somalia, with a strong focus on Gubadley IDP settlements in the Banadir region.
As humanitarian needs continue to rise due to recurring droughts, displacement and food insecurity, the joint response has prioritized timely, targeted and life-saving assistance for the most vulnerable groups, including women-headed households, lactating mothers, children under five and persons with disabilities.
Emergency Life-Saving Assistance
Through coordinated field operations, SOHDA and LM International have delivered essential emergency support to displaced families. This includes the distribution of critical food assistance, temporary shelter support, WASH services and child protection interventions aimed at reducing immediate vulnerability and restoring dignity among affected households.
Nutrition Support for Mothers and Children
A key component of the response has been targeted nutrition interventions for lactating mothers and children under five. Beneficiaries have received porridge and fortified food items such as peanut biscuits, milk and dates to help prevent acute malnutrition and support early childhood development.
In addition, community-based nutrition awareness sessions have been conducted to promote improved infant and young child feeding practices, hygiene, and positive health-seeking behaviors within affected communities.
Community Engagement and Accountability
To ensure transparency and effectiveness, SOHDA and LM International have conducted regular joint field monitoring visits and community engagement activities. These efforts have strengthened accountability systems, improved beneficiary targeting and ensured equitable delivery of assistance to the most vulnerable households.
Impact
The partnership has contributed to improved access to food, strengthened nutrition outcomes for mothers and children and enhanced community trust in humanitarian service delivery. It has also supported resilience-building efforts among crisis-affected populations in Gubadley and surrounding IDP settlements.
SOHDA remains committed together with LM International to scaling up life-saving, inclusive and coordinated humanitarian interventions to ensure that no vulnerable household is left behind.
