In April 2026, SOHDA successfully implemented community-based awareness raising and training sessions on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) in Gubadley and Garasbaley, reaching a total of 100 participants (50 from each location). The activity was supported by the United Nations Transition Assistance Mission in Somalia and funded by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The main objective of the intervention was to enhance community knowledge and understanding of SGBV and CRSV, strengthen prevention and response mechanisms and promote survivor-centered approaches within the community. The training also aimed to improve awareness of reporting pathways, available protection services and referral systems while reducing stigma and encouraging community responsibility in addressing violence.
The intervention resulted in improved awareness and understanding of SGBV and CRSV among participants, strengthening their ability to identify, prevent and respond to cases of violence. It also contributed to increased knowledge of survivor rights and available support services, fostering more effective reporting and referral practices. As a result, the 100 trained participants are expected to act as community change agents, sharing knowledge within their households and communities, thereby contributing to stronger protection systems and safer environments in both Gubadley and Garasbaley.
