Standing Together for Humanity
In Somalia, recurring droughts, displacement, food insecurity and malnutrition continue to affect millions of vulnerable families. Through its partnership with LM International, SOHDA (Somali Humanitarian and Development Action) is delivering lifesaving assistance to communities most in need, helping families regain dignity, hope and resilience. LM International works globally to support vulnerable communities through humanitarian and development interventions focused on food security, health, livelihoods, education and WASH.
Emergency Food Assistance for Displaced Families
In May 2026, SOHDA, with support from LM International, provided emergency food assistance to 275 vulnerable households in Gubadley District, Mogadishu. The project targeted internally displaced persons (IDPs), orphan-headed households, widows, and families facing severe food shortages.
Families received essential food supplies that helped them meet their immediate nutritional needs and reduce the risk of hunger and malnutrition.
Supporting Child Nutrition and Well-being
As part of the intervention, SOHDA conducted nutrition screening and awareness activities for children under five and pregnant and lactating women. Caregivers received guidance on proper nutrition, child feeding practices, and hygiene measures to improve family health outcomes.
These activities contribute to preventing malnutrition and promoting healthier communities.
A Story of Hope: Hassan and Asha
Among the beneficiaries were Hassan, aged 7, and his older sister Asha, aged 8, two orphaned children living with a struggling caregiver in Gubadley District.
When SOHDA first registered the family in April 2026, their future was uncertain. Food was scarce and the children often went to bed hungry. Following the distribution of emergency food assistance supported by LM International their situation began to improve.
Today, Hassan and Asha smile again. Their caregiver can provide regular meals, and the children have renewed hope for a better future.
